Varvara Karpova is a 22-year-old graduate of the Baltic Film, Media, and Arts School, with a strong passion for cinematography and considerable skills in producing, photography, lighting, editing, and sound.
Her journey as a filmmaker began nine years ago at the Estonian local film studio "MEKSVIDEO." During that time, she participated in several film festivals. She secured Best Film at the festival in Kaunas and Second Runner Up at the Georgian Festival for the best film on a social theme.
Recently, she has been the Director of Photography for several major projects, including a music video for the Eurovision band "Goa_A," an ETV advertisement for the Maternity Hospitals Foundation with Märt Avandi, and the short film "Sad Inheritance," which won the "Parim Film" award at the BOB festival, featuring leading roles by Pääru Oja, Tõnu Oja, Margo Teder, and Tõru Kannimäe. Additionally, she worked on a queer fantasy drama shot in Neringa, Lithuania, as part of Summer Media Studio 2023, the teaser for the upcoming film "Eyes Of The Forest," and the short film "Cracks."
Additionally, she has been a part of relevant and promising productions. With her internship at the international video production company "Vita Pictura," she saw herself as Assistant Editor for a full-length film called "On Silver Heels" about women's hockey in Estonia and as 1st Assistant Cinematographer for music videos for Estonian famous singers such as Põhja-Tallinn x Genka, Art Assistant for YASMYN, Production Assistant for Systemstöd, B-Cam for Retrobest Music Festival.
She has also had the opportunity to work with many Estonian production companies and brands, such as AllFILM, Tallifornia, A CUBE Agency, Wedia Productions, Seagull Anatomy, Bolt, Tele2, and PÖFF.
Varvara's work is driven by a sincere sense that art requires a personal, honest quality. Her vision in the film industry is driven by a passion for making resonant work in the media space. This urge to tell innovative but capable stories, sets her work apart from others.
